Instructions for translators

Pantrist is a pantry and shopping-list app (iOS, Android, web) plus its website, store listings and integrations.

  • Tone: friendly and informal. Use the informal "you" where your language has one (du, je, tu, du/ni …); European Portuguese uses the polite form.
  • Keep placeholders exactly as they are, e.g. {{count}}, {{ listName }}, %1$s, %d, %@. You may move them, but don't translate, remove or add spaces inside them.
  • Keep HTML tags like <strong>, <a href="…"> and <span class='intend-parameter'> and only translate the text between them.
  • Don't translate product and brand names: Pantrist, Premium, Home Assistant, Alexa, n8n, MCP, Claude.
  • Use the glossary terms for core concepts (pantry list, shopping list, article catalogue, Smart Suggestions) so the app stays consistent.
  • Alexa voice commands on the website must match the skill's invocation in your language. If there is no Alexa skill for your language, leave them untranslated.
  • Keep it short: many strings appear on buttons, watch screens or widgets.
  • Questions or unclear source text: leave a comment on the string or write to [email protected].
Translation process
  • Translations can be made directly.
  • Translation suggestions can be made.
  • Any authenticated user can contribute.
  • The translation uses monolingual files.
  • The translation base language is editable.

The search in the pantry list looks at an item's name, brand, barcode and notes, but not at its category. To see all alcoholic drinks at a glance, for example, use the filter instead. It works on your whole pantry or on a single storage location. An item only shows up if it has the matching category assigned.
Sökningen i förrådslistan letar i en artikels namn, märke, streckkod och anteckningar, men inte i dess kategori. Vill du till exempel se alla alkoholhaltiga drycker på en gång använder du filtret i stället. Det fungerar för hela förrådet eller för en enskild förvaringsplats.
